Funding and Fees

School Funding

The River School receives recurrent funding from both State and Federal governments. In addition, we receive grants, donations and fundraise to achieve our goals. Our school is a member of Independent Schools Queensland, as well as the Small School’s Network, collaborating and lobbying with other like-minded schools.

Enrolment Fees 2018

Early Childhood Centre: $250 p/child

Primary School (Prep – Year 6): $300 p/child

An enrolment is not considered to be finalised until the enrolment fee is paid and the enrolment forms have been received by the office. In some cases, a waiting list for entry into a particular class may exist.  In this circumstance, parents will be notified before enrolment is accepted.  To be placed on the waiting list, the enrolment fee must be paid and enrolment forms received by the office.

School Fees 2018

Early Childhood Centre: $78 per day (All Centrelink and Parenting benefits apply). Invoices are sent home fortnightly and payments must remain 2 weeks in advance.

Primary School (Prep – Year 6): $1,325 p/term for the first child (discounts apply to families).  Term fees can be reduced by up to $200 p/term per family through our Energy Contribution Scheme (see below).  School fees in 2018 cover all academic costs, stationery, bus fees, books, art materials and expenses.  Invoices are sent home at the start of each term and are payable by the end of the 3rd week of term however payment plans are available.

Energy Contribution

Primary School (Prep – Year 6) Term fees can be reduced by up to a maximum of $200 p/term through our Energy Contribution Scheme.   You encourage our families to volunteer their time and energy to the school during the associated term at a rate of $20 p/hr (10 hours per term).  Hours worked within the term will be applied against your term’s school fees at the completion of each term.  Hours cannot be backdated to previous terms but additional hours can be ‘banked’ and carried forward to subsequent terms/years. Each family is asked to contribute 1 hour per week (or 10 hours per term) volunteering in some capacity to work off this energy levy.  One hour of volunteering equates to $20 off the energy levy invoice. Parents at our school work off their energy levy in a variety of ways including:

  • Participation in working bees
  • Volunteering in the classroom
  • Serving on school committees as Class Representatives or P&F Committee members
  • Helping with festivals and fundraising activities
  • Volunteering to help on excursions and school camps
  • Teaching an elective
  • Covering library books at home
  • Washing swimming towels, cushion covers at home

If you would like to contribute to the Energy Contribution Scheme and would like some more suggestions, please do not hesitate to contact your classroom teacher or the office.  Parents are required to register the number of hours worked per term by keeping a log of their hours on a family card kept outside the office.  Please see the office for more information, if required.

Occasional other costs are also incurred during the year for Arts Council and related activities, school camps and excursions. These are paid as they occur.
