Ananda Marga is a global movement dedicated to self-realisation and service to all. The name is in Sanskrit and means literally ‘Path of Bliss’.

Ananda Marga was founded in India in 1955 by the late Prabhat Rainjan Sarkar (also called ‘Shrii Shrii Anandamurti’) a visionary, philosopher and spiritual guide.
Ananda Marga teaches yoga and meditation as powerful tools to help us discover deep spiritual fulfilment, peace and wisdom.

It also emphasises a non-dogmatic code of ethics and encourages a universal outlook, which rises above limited sentiments of nation, race, religion, gender and social status.

Ananda Marga monks and nuns are called ‘Dada’ and ‘Didi’ which means ‘brother’ and ‘sister.’ They dedicate their life to service and spiritual teaching. In Ananda Marga both family people and monks are treated with
equal respect.

Global Service

The Ananda Marga River School is part of a network of hundreds of Neo-Humanist schools run by Ananda Marga throughout the world. In Australia we have schools in Lismore (NSW), Melbourne.(VIC) and Maleny (QLD).

Ananda Marga is also involved in many other kinds of service, from orphanages and disaster relief, to alternative agriculture and programmes for artists and progressive scientists.

The River School is located on the Ananda Marga community land in Maleny called ‘Ananda Kamala’, (Abode of Bliss), which comprises 57 acres and houses three families.

The land was purchased in 1984 by the resident families who in 1995 collectively donated 25 acres and the buildings to start the school.
